The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released Version 2.0 of the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Concept of Operations (ConOps). Version 2.0 is the result of feedback provided by the FAA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and industry partners who provided feedback to Version 1.0 of this document since its release in 2020. This ConOps documents the outcomes of the joint concept development efforts undertaken to date by the FAA NexGen Office with industry stakeholders as well as interagency coordination.
The UAM ConOps Version 2.0 represents a continuous evolution of the development process for this concept, which will be further refined through continuous collaboration between government and industry stakeholders. Subsequent versions of the UAM ConOps will present a wider and more inclusive perspective of the collective partnership in UAM operations, incorporating feedback and ongoing collaboration from this particular iteration of the UAM ConOps.
This document plays a crucial role in advancing the overall Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) concept, which focuses on creating an air transportation system that facilitates the movement of people and goods to local, regional, intraregional, and urban areas that have been traditionally underserved by aviation. This is achieved through the utilization of cutting-edge aircraft, technologies, infrastructure, and operational methods. AAM aims to enable diverse operations, including passenger and cargo transportation, within both urban and rural environments, utilizing novel and innovative aircraft designs.
