Federal Grand Jury Indictment of Davien Phillip Turner filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Turner pled guilty to federal violations in November 2022.  According to court records, law enforcement officials were alerted to reports of drone activity on the property of the Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont, Texas, on May 19, 2022. Responding officers found turner in the area where the drone was being operated, and discovered a DJI Matrice 600 Pro Drone, and bags containing tobacco, cell phones, cell phone charges, tools, vape pens, and other miscellaneous items. Those items were intended to be sold by inmates within the prison complex.

The two-count indictment charges Turner with Owning and Operating an Aircraft that is Not Registered in violation of 49 U.S.C. § 46306(b)(5)(A).; and Serving or Attempting to Serve as an Airman Without an Airman’s Certificate in violation of 49 U.S.C. § 46306(b)(7).
