According to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), an Iran-backed Iraqi militia claimed responsibility for the drone attacks carried out on January 20th, 2023, against the Coalition Al-Tanf base in Syria.

Regarding the attack, a statement from the official U.S. Central Command Twitter account read: “This morning [January 20, 2023], three one-way attack drones attacked the Al-Tanf Garrison in Syria. Two of the drones were shot down by Coalition Forces while one struck the compound, injuring two members of the Syrian Free Army partner force who received medical treatment. No US forces were injured.”

On January 21st, 2023, an Iraqi jihadi group took responsibility for the attack against the Al-Tanf base. In the statement, the group emphasizes that “no one can stop us,” and “whoever does not listen to our voice saying the occupier needs to be removed will kneel in front of our guns” and that it intends to carry out its threats and not hide behind a computer.
