In an interview with Ukroboronprom CEO Herman Smetanin by Ekonomichna Pravda, Smetanin confirmed the existence of a “kamikaze” drone capable of flying around 1,000 kilometers (approximately 621 miles).

Smetanin added, “It is being produced. In particular, in cooperation with foreign partners. I will not tell you where exactly for security reasons. The main thing is that they fly and explode, and the Defense Forces order them.”

Smetanin mentioned that the company has drone variants similar to the Iranian Shahed-series one-way attack drones, which Russia uses extensively against Ukraine. However, Ukroboronprom is currently prioritizing the development of more advanced and high-performance drone models, emphasizing its focus on complex and expensive projects. These drones have a combat range of approximately 1000 kilometers, surpassing the capabilities of Shahed drones.

Ukroboronprom is not only manufacturing “kamikaze” drones but is also actively facilitating the expansion of First Person View (FPV) drones produced by private companies. The company has established licensing agreements with three major firms to produce their FPV drone models. This initiative is contributing to the flourishing drone ecosystem in Ukraine. FPV drones are increasingly utilized on the battlefield by both Ukrainian and Russian forces as cost-effective, high-precision weapons that can target a range of objectives, from individuals to heavy machinery, whether stationary or in motion.
