Turkish counter-drone systems deployed to protect NATO Summit in Ankara

Turkish-developed counter-drone systems were deployed by security forces to protect the airspace during the recent NATO Summit in Ankara, highlighting the country’s growing portfolio of domestically produced counter-UAS systems.

The systems were used to secure the summit venue as NATO leaders gathered to discuss a range of defense issues, including the alliance’s newly announced Drone Edge initiative, which aims to strengthen members’ ability to detect, identify and defeat unmanned aerial threats.

Under the initiative, NATO allies have committed to investing more than $40 billion in counter-drone capabilities over the next five years, supporting the procurement of technologies including detection radars, electro-optical sensors, electronic warfare systems, GPS spoofing capabilities and kinetic interceptors.
