Numerica Corporation, a specialist in air and missile defence technologies, has introduced its new multi-mission sensing platform, the Spark radar. The wideband hemispheric radar is designed to offer integrated protection across several domains, including active protection systems, short-range air defence (SHORAD) and C-UAS. The Spark system aims to enhance the defensive capabilities of military vehicles against a wide range of airborne threats.
The Spark radar is specifically built to address threats such as short-range rocket-propelled grenades, anti-tank guided missiles and other high-speed kinetic vehicle threats. It is also equipped to counter hostile UAS, including one-way attack drones and top-attack threats.
Using modern wideband phased array technology and on-radar software, the Spark radar enhances detection, targeting and automation processes. It offers true hemispheric coverage, including 90-degree overhead detection, which is critical for countering top-attack vehicle threats that often bypass traditional defensive measures. Additionally, it delivers high-precision tracking necessary to support next-generation autonomous responses to threats, including both kinetic and non-kinetic solutions..
Jeff Poore, president of Numerica, noted:
“Spark radar is game changing because it covers multiple missions within a single capability. Spark’s advanced on-radar software and accelerated processing capabilities deliver unmatched tracking precision at extended ranges.”
The Spark radar, designed and manufactured in the U.S., aims to address evolving modern threats with a cost-effective solution for military vehicle protection and air defence. The goal is to support broad deployment across defence operations with versatile integration capabilities.
