Axon Vision and Leonardo DRS have signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at expanding their joint work on advanced situational awareness, platform lethality and survivability technologies, particularly in the rapidly growing U.S. counter-UAS market.
The agreement positions the companies to pursue U.S. defense programs seeking onboard, AI-enabled capabilities that can support force protection and modernization efforts. Axon Vision said the partnership builds on previous collaboration between the firms, which has included integrating its AI perception and autonomy software with Leonardo DRS sensor suites and mission systems.
Under the new memorandum of agreement, the companies plan to combine Leonardo DRS’ experience in system integration, sensors and ruggedized processing hardware with Axon Vision’s AI-based detection, classification and automation tools.
According to the announcement, the goal is to offer turnkey combat systems capable of high-bandwidth sensor data processing, improved crew awareness and automated threat response, with a focus on counter-UAS missions.
Recent demonstrations highlighted the companies’ joint work on unmanned ground vehicle platforms equipped with modular Leonardo DRS payloads and Axon Vision’s AI. The combined package was shown performing aerial threat detection, automated or semi-automated engagement functions, and enhanced remote-weapon-station control.
Executives from both companies said the cooperation reflects growing demand for scalable, AI-driven systems that can support both manned and unmanned platforms. Axon Vision, founded in 2017 and supplying AI-enabled systems to the Israel Defense Forces and other militaries, said the partnership marks a significant step in advancing its presence in the U.S. defense market.
