BAE Systems acquires Kirintec for electronic warfare capabilities

BAE Systems has announced its acquisition of Kirintec, a UK-based company specialising in cyber and electromagnetic activities (CEMA), including counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), counter-UAS and electronic warfare solutions. This acquisition represents a strategic move for BAE Systems as it seeks to bolster its electronic warfare capabilities.

Kirintec’s electronic warfare systems are designed to jam or disrupt the signals that control enemy drones and IEDs, offering a valuable solution for protecting military operations. These systems can be integrated across multiple domains and military platforms, thanks to their open architecture design.

The acquisition allows BAE Systems to enhance its capabilities in CEMA and multi-domain integration, meeting the growing demand for advanced electronic warfare and counter-UAS solutions. Kirintec will join BAE Systems’ Digital Intelligence business, expanding the company’s portfolio in electronic warfare and force protection.

Andrea Thompson, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems’ Digital Intelligence business, commented:

“The nature of warfare is changing for our military customers, and adversaries are increasingly using offensive and defensive cyber and electronic warfare capabilities. Kirintec is a welcome addition to our business. Together, our complementary capabilities will help our armed forces secure electromagnetic spectrum dominance and conduct operations with a reduced risk of casualties or operational setbacks.”

Nick Watts, CEO of Kirintec, added:

“The opportunity for CEMA expansion is significant amidst today’s increasingly digitally-driven battlespace. In order to address the demand and grow to the level our customers require, we are delighted to join BAE Systems and combine our heritage in CEMA with BAE Systems’ global pedigree in delivering multi-domain solutions.”

The acquisition aligns with BAE Systems’ strategy to pursue technology-rich acquisitions that complement its existing portfolio. Kirintec’s 50-strong workforce will continue to operate from its site in Herefordshire, with BAE Systems supporting increased investment in product development, particularly for electronic warfare systems, to bring innovative solutions to a broader range of customers across the UK and allied nations.
