BlueHalo has been awarded a five-year contract worth $49.9 million by the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific to provide Electronic Warfare (EW) sensors for integration with multiple UAS. The contract also includes engineering services, operational support and operator training for the US Navy and US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).
The project will focus on developing, upgrading and testing EW sensors, as well as integrating them into various UAS platforms. These modular payload-compliant sensors are designed to enhance mission capabilities across a range of applications and domains.
“BlueHalo continues to deliver inspired engineering and tactical solutions to help our Nation stay ahead of global threats,” said James Batt, Chief Growth Officer at BlueHalo. “NIWC Pacific has relied on our EW sensors to support mission success for more than 15 years. This contract underlines the confidence customers have in BlueHalo to field the very best capabilities when it matters most.”
The company will also provide sustainment services, including repairs, replacements and operator training, ensuring long-term operational effectiveness.
Modular and scalable solutions
BlueHalo’s EW sensors are built using a Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) and Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA). These frameworks allow for flexibility and interoperability across multiple UAS platforms and mission types.
Programs supported under this contract include the Group 3 Unmanned Aerial System (G3UAS) program, the USSOCOM Multi-mission Tactical Unmanned Aerial System (MTUAS) program, and the Mid-Endurance Unmanned Aerial System (MEUAS) program, as part of the Joint Threat Warning System initiative.
Mary Clum, President of BlueHalo’s Products & Space Systems Portfolio, emphasized the complexity of integrating EW sensors into diverse platforms:
“EW sensor integrations can be incredibly complex – spanning multiple airframes, information infrastructures, and domains to meet multiple mission needs,” Clum said. “With our technical expertise and superior EW systems, BlueHalo provides customers with the modularity, scalability and interoperability necessary to support a variety of platforms and configurations.”
BlueHalo has a history of collaboration with NIWC Pacific, providing EW solutions for more than 15 years. This contract highlights the growing role of UAS in warfare and the need for advanced sensors in increasingly EW contested environments.
