The European Defence Agency has issued a market consultation request to industry aimed at improving its understanding of airspace monitoring and counter-UAS capabilities.
The request for information focuses on technologies for detecting, tracking, classifying and neutralizing non-collaborative aircraft, alongside command and control systems and broader operational considerations tied to deployment.
In the consultation document, the agency said the initiative is designed to “enhance its understanding of the performance and characteristics of Airspace monitoring of non-collaborative aircraft and ocunter-UAS, covering detection, tracking, classification, identification and neutralization, and including command and control (C2), as well as associated operational and technical considerations related to their deployment.”
The consultation outlines several objectives, including engaging with industry to better understand existing and emerging technologies, promoting transparency and information-sharing and refining procurement strategies across member states.
It also aims to identify potential suppliers and analyze capability gaps, with the goal of informing future acquisition processes and supporting the development of new solutions.
“Interested parties are encouraged to express their interest by providing relevant information regarding their offerings,” the agency said.
The EDA added that the exercise is intended to map available solutions and evaluate industry expertise, with a particular focus on the European Defence Technological Industrial Base while remaining open to participants from outside the European Union market.
The agency emphasized that the consultation does not represent a formal procurement effort.
“This is not a call for tender,” the EDA said. “This RFI serves purely for market consultation and does not initiate a formal procurement process or signify an obligation to proceed with tendering.”
The move is part of continued efforts by European defense organizations to better understand and coordinate counter-drone capabilities as unmanned systems become an increasingly prominent feature of modern security environments.
