Elbit Systems UK has secured a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to supply a series of Ground-Based Surveillance Radar (GBSR) systems. These systems, designed and manufactured in the UK and Europe, will be deployed by the British Armed Forces to enhance front-line threat detection capabilities for various end-users. This initiative aims to bolster the UK’s defense capabilities and ensure effective surveillance and monitoring in critical operational scenarios.
Elbit Systems UK will deliver 90 GBSR systems throughout 2023 and 2024, with a follow-on option of an additional 40 systems. The GBSR system is easily portable and uses Digital Signal Processing to detect, track and classify targets moving on or close to the ground.
Elbit Systems UK has customized the delivered systems to meet the unique capability demands of a collaborative end-user community. These tailored adaptations encompass an optimized stabilization unit and software upgrades based on an open architecture framework. These enhancements enable seamless integration with both current and future systems employed by the UK MOD. By incorporating these modifications, Elbit Systems UK ensures that the GBSR systems align harmoniously with existing infrastructure while also accommodating future technological advancements.
The system also incorporates capture software that allows operator performance to be analyzed. This will support extensive, data-driven training for the user.
“Elbit Systems UK has a deep understanding of the threat environment in which our servicemen and women operate,” said Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK. He continued, “By offering a portable solution for medium and short-range target detection, Elbit Systems UK is continuing to support the UK Ministry of Defence in providing leading situational awareness for those on the front line, using some of the best technology available.”
