ELTA North America to evaluate M3S2 System for US Military

ELTA North America announced this week it has received a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to evaluate the capabilities of the M3S2 (Multi-Mission/Multi-Sensor Suite).

The M3S2 is a multi-mission sensor system designed to provide simultaneous capabilities for Active Protection, C-UAS, and advanced ground surveillance. According to the company, the suite integrates radar and electro-optical sensors into a compact format that requires low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP), aiming to improve situational awareness and defensive capabilities for tactical and wheeled vehicles and other essential assets.

The company lists several key capabilities of the M3S2 that aim to increase protection and operational effectiveness in a variety of environments. Among these are its wide surveillance area, and the weapon fire detection technology – which can accurately identify fire from a range of weaponry.

The company also highlights the system’s effectiveness in urban environments and all-weather conditions, noting in particular the fast and precise response time when shooting at hostile targets.

“As modern threats evolve, it is important for our defensive solutions to adapt accordingly,” emphasized Joe Adams, CEO of ELTA North America. “The M3S2 is intended to deliver 360-degree protection for tactical vehicles, effectively combining advanced sensors to address various threats and reduce the need for multiple standalone systems.”

ELTA North America has not yet stated which specific vehicles will receive the new system. Still, the company emphasized that this contract highlights the DoD’s commitment to advancing technologies to enhance battlefield survivability and operational efficiency for its fighting vehicles.

Previously, the U.S. Army awarded ELTA North America a $7.5 million contract to support the installation of the Trophy APS onto M1 Abrams tanks in October 2024.
