Electro Optic Systems (EOS) and the Robotic and Autonomous Systems Implementation & Coordination Office (RICO) have achieved a notable milestone in their partnership, showcasing the advanced long-range firing capabilities and precision of EOS’ R400 remote weapon system (RWS) to counter UAS threats.

Operating from EOS’ cutting-edge facility in Canberra, the team remotely controlled the RWS mounted on a modified M113 Armoured Personnel Carrier located at the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Puckapunyal Military Area, approximately 550 kilometers away. They successfully engaged targets at distances of 300 and 600 meters.

Following the demonstration, EOS conducted a qualification training session for five ADF students at Puckapunyal, during which they operated the RWS remotely. The session culminated in a live-fire counter-drone demonstration, with two students effectively engaging stationary and moving drone targets at distances of up to 500 meters.

Ian Cook, Executive Vice President for EOS Defence Systems, remarked, “The success of this live-fire counter-drone exercise at Puckapunyal is a testament to the dedication and expertise of ADF and EOS personnel and their commitment to advancing military capabilities. It also highlights the importance of continuous innovation and training in modern warfare.”

These accomplishments signify a significant advancement in military technology, offering improved precision, safety, and operational flexibility. As EOS and RICO push the boundaries of Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and RWS capabilities, their contributions are poised to play a vital role in shaping the future of military operations and strategy.
