HENSOLDT, a leading provider of sensor solutions, and ERA, an innovative company with expertise in Air Traffic Control (ATC) and passive surveillance systems for air surveillance, air defense, and electronic warfare, have joined forces through a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to propel the progress of air surveillance and defense capabilities, driven by the lessons drawn from recent conflicts in Europe. These experiences underscore the urgency of incorporating state-of-the-art technologies to bolster national and European security.
The partnership’s main goal is jointly offering the Passive Surveillance System VERA-NG to the German Luftwaffe. HENSOLDT and ERA will collaborate to create an integrated infrastructure that combines the advanced VERA-NG system from ERA and HENSOLDT’s Passive Radar Twinvis technology. This fusion involves merging data from both systems to generate a comprehensive and deep integrated air picture. The two technologies work together harmoniously: VERA-NG detects distant targets emitting active signals, while Twinvis identifies targets without emitting signals at a closer range. This innovative combination enables the creation of a fully passive air picture. This strategic synergy will result in an unparalleled level of passive surveillance capability, significantly contributing to future air surveillance and defense systems.
The VERA-NG system has gained a reputation for its exceptional real-time surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities across air, maritime, and land domains. It boasts a track record of demonstrated success with NATO and allied countries.
Markus Rothmaier, Head of Naval & Ground Radars at HENSOLDT, highlighted the commitment of both HENSOLDT and ERA as leaders in their fields to offer forward-looking solutions for the changing security environment. The collaboration is driven by a shared vision of using advanced technologies to elevate national security. The integrated solution they are developing is anticipated to establish new passive air surveillance and defense standards.
With aspirations extending beyond the German Luftwaffe, both companies are positioned to expand their partnership and provide their integrated solution to other European clients. As passive surveillance gains greater acknowledgment as a crucial element in air defense systems, HEN and ERA are firmly positioned to contribute to the safety and security of European skies.
Ondrej Chlost, CEO of ERA, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with HENSOLDT, marking a significant step towards ushering in a new era of passive surveillance capabilities. Fusing the established VERA-NG passive surveillance system with PCL-Twinvis technology holds great promise. This integration tackles present challenges and readies both companies for future air surveillance and defense requirements.
