Handbook on UAS protection of critical infrastructure and public space is a resource written by the European Commission Joint Research Centre.
The handbook offers guidance on safeguarding against malicious Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and furnishes directives, references, strategies, and considerations. It encompasses detection, tracking, identification, and neutralization and provides insights into risk analysis, solution design, solution implementation, and operational aspects. The handbook underscores the significance of integrating systems and processes while engaging stakeholders to establish a comprehensive solution.
This handbook plays a pivotal role in the Commission’s Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) package, introduced as a flagship initiative within the Commission’s communication titled ‘A drone strategy 2.0 for a smart and sustainable unmanned aircraft ecosystem in Europe.’ This package comprises a dedicated communication on C-UAS, outlining the primary principles for the EU’s future policy addressing potential UAS threats.
As part of the ongoing commitment to support EU Member States and stakeholders, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) has produced two handbooks. The first presents a five-phased approach to developing a C-UAS solution, while the second offers recommendations for assessing risks arising from the malicious use of UAS, along with guidance on fortifying non-military infrastructures against such threats.
