High Lander and Thirdeye Systems have launched a field trial to evaluate a ground-based detect-and-avoid (DAA) capability intended to support beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations at scale.
The companies announced the initiative following the signing of a memorandum of understanding, with the trial focusing on whether autonomous ground-based sensing can supplement or replace human visual observers during BVLOS flights. The effort aims to support the development of infrastructure that could enable routine BVLOS operations rather than requiring case-by-case regulatory approvals.
