Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a leading aerospace and defense company, has secured a contract to supply a Multi-Sensor Multi-Mission Radar (MS-MMR) system to a European nation for its air defense capabilities.

Developed by IAI’s ELTA Systems, the MS-MMR integrates an Electronic Support Measures (ESM) system, ELL-8385, into the MMR, ELM-2084. This integration enhances the radar’s detection and recognition of airborne threats by identifying their electromagnetic signatures. The ESM assists in distinguishing between closely spaced targets and detects low radar cross-section emitting targets, extending the radar’s detection range and performance. By merging radar and ESM data, the MS-MMR improves tracking accuracy, offering the air defense system a more comprehensive Air-Situational Picture (ASP) and enabling quicker responses to unidentified threats while minimizing identification errors.

“The combination of passive ESM and active radar is the optimal combined sensor for air defense, boosting the ability to detect and identify airborne threats throughout the arena,” said Adi Dulberg, VP and GM of IAI ELTA’s Intelligence, Communications, and Electronic Warfare Division. “The combined active-passive Air Situational Picture will enhance our customer’s security by providing their air defense system with the best possible threat intelligence.”
