The G20 Summit in New Delhi is starting later this week. The summit will bring together leaders from nations such as Japan, Australia, India, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
With so many high-profile leaders, such as U.S. President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida attending, India has rolled out an extensive security infrastructure to protect the event.
According to the Hindustan Times, the national capital area will be guarded by nearly 130,000 security personnel, including the 80,000-strong Delhi Police. A spokesperson from the Indian Air Force has disclosed that comprehensive measures are underway to establish an integrated airspace awareness and defense system in New Delhi and its surrounding areas. The spokesperson explained that this initiative involves a coordinated effort between the Indian military, including the Air Force, the Delhi Police, and paramilitary forces, to deploy counter-drone systems to neutralize potential aerial threats. Furthermore, approximately 400 firefighters will remain on standby for immediate emergency response.
Dependra Pathak, a special commissioner of the Delhi Police responsible for security arrangements in the city, remarked, “This is an historic and significant occasion.” He noted that thousands of personnel from various government security services, such as the home guards and the para-military Border Security Force, will be mobilized to ensure law and order.
