Indra’s long-range transportable Lanza 3D radar (LTR-25) is actively utilized by the Royal Air Force (RAF) to conduct surveillance over the United Kingdom’s airspace. As a crucial component of the RAF’s Global Enablement Team, this radar is a valuable asset capable of swift deployment to any location worldwide.
Recently, the RAF showcased its impressive capabilities at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), a premier military aviation event that gathers the world’s leading air forces and Air Chiefs. RIAT is one of the largest and most renowned shows, providing a platform for demonstrating cutting-edge aerial prowess and fostering international collaboration.
“The deployments of this radar with the RAF highlights Indra’s ability to meet the needs of the most technically demanding clients and reinforces our position as one of the world’s leading radar suppliers”, commented Domingo Castro, Indra’s Integrated Systems and Space Director.
The Lanza radar family comprises state-of-the-art 3D radar systems built on a fully modular and scalable architecture in terms of hardware and software. Specifically, the RAF’s Lanza Radar is purposefully designed as a tactical deployable radar, enabling swift air, sea, rail, and road transportation. Its versatile nature ensures efficient mobility and adaptability to various operational scenarios.
The system can detect and track tactical ballistic missiles, furnishing air surveillance command and control centers with critical early warning information to counter and neutralize potential attacks. It provides trajectory parameters for initiating offensive, defensive, or intelligence actions, including estimated launch points, cue points, impact zones, interceptions, etc. This information is vital in enabling timely and effective response measures.
The radar incorporates sophisticated techniques and algorithms specially developed by Indra to effectively address and minimize reflections and clutter caused by wind turbines and solar panels. This unique capability has been thoroughly validated, making it highly effective in navigating increasingly challenging and densely populated environments.
