Israel and Greece have agreed to intensify cooperation on countering drone threats in both the air and maritime domains.
The agreement was reached during talks in Athens between Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz and Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias. The meeting took place as Israel, Greece and Cyprus revived trilateral discussions amid shifting regional dynamics and ongoing tensions with Turkey.
The timing also coincides with a renewed political dialogue between Athens and Ankara, which has focused on lower-intensity issues while longstanding disputes in the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean remain unresolved.
During public remarks following the meeting, both ministers framed the partnership as one between democratic states contributing to regional stability. Katz made an explicit reference to regional actors viewed as destabilizing forces, stating that Israel and Greece would not allow “actors seeking to undermine regional stability to establish a foothold through terrorism, aggression or military proxies” across multiple theaters, including the Aegean Sea.
Dendias said the two countries had agreed to exchange expertise to address emerging drone threats, particularly swarms of UAS and groups of unmanned underwater systems. He added that the cooperation would also extend into the cyber domain, reflecting the increasingly networked nature of modern drone and counter-drone operations.
The deepening of Israeli-Greek cooperation on counter-drone capabilities highlights a growing concern across the region over the proliferation of UAS, including aerial, surface and underwater platforms. For both countries, the agreement points to a shared assessment that future security challenges will increasingly involve coordinated responses to drone swarms and hybrid threats across multiple domains.
