JIATF 401 commits over $600 million to accelerate C-UAS capabilities

Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) has committed more than $600 million to expand counter-UAS capabilities in support of ongoing military operations, homeland defense and major public events, according to an official statement released April 6.

The funding, allocated at a record pace, supports Operation Epic Fury, domestic security requirements tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and broader infrastructure protection efforts.

Of the total, $350 million was committed during the first month of combat operations to meet urgent requirements from multiple combatant commands. The investments are intended to protect deployed forces and enhance the resilience of key operational platforms.

“This decisive action demonstrates JIATF 401’s ability to rapidly translate operational needs into fielded capability, while also remaining firmly focused on homeland defense,” said Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, director of the task force. “From day one, our mission has been to move with speed and purpose to keep pace with this evolving threat.”

An additional $100 million has been directed toward counter-drone systems for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The effort focuses on mobile, non-kinetic technologies designed to protect stadiums and surrounding areas across multiple host cities. These systems are expected to transition into longer-term infrastructure defense roles after the tournament.

The task force also allocated $158 million under the Domestic Shield initiative to defend high-priority defense infrastructure, following an expedited requirements and validation process.

“The speed and scale of these commitments reflect extraordinary coordination across the Department of War and interagency partners,” said Michelle Self, Deputy of the Rapid Acquisition Division. “Efforts that traditionally take years have been executed in months, demonstrating JIATF 401’s commitment to delivering operationally relevant capability at speed.”
