JIATF-401 completes first through Counter-UAS Marketplace

Joint Interagency Task Force 401 has completed its first round of purchases through the newly launched counter-UAS marketplace, with four orders totaling $13 million.

The acquisitions include a mix of low-collateral defeat effectors, sensor systems, radars and electronic warfare capabilities. These systems have been delivered to U.S. Central Command, services supporting homeland defense missions and Joint Task Force Southern Border.

The marketplace, launched in February, is hosted on the Army’s common hardware systems electronic catalog and operates through an existing indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. The platform is designed to reduce procurement timelines by allowing government users to directly access and purchase pre-approved counter-UAS technologies.

“The [common hardware systems] website… is designed to facilitate direct, seamless transactions between government entities and approved vendors,” said Army Maj. Matt Mellor, Lead Acquisitions Specialist for the Task Force. “Through the platform, customers can review performance data, compare systems and make informed decisions based on real-world test results and verified capabilities.”

The catalog currently includes about a dozen systems, along with components that can be used for maintenance and repairs. Officials say the inventory will continue to expand as additional technologies are validated and added.

“The marketplace is a critical step forward in our whole-of-government approach to countering the threat of unmanned systems,” said Army Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, Director of JIATF-401. “This platform is not only revolutionizing the entire procurement process, but also empowering users with the information and tools needed to safeguard our service members and citizens, while providing timely, cost-effective solutions to our warfighters.”

The initiative reflects broader efforts to accelerate counter-UAS acquisition and fielding as demand for layered defense capabilities continues to grow.
