MARSS has completed flight testing of its INTERCEPTOR-MR counter-UAS system following significant hardware and software upgrades. The medium-range interceptor, integrated with the company’s NiDAR command-and-control system and controlled by its EDGE software, was trialed in the UK as part of ongoing development.
INTERCEPTOR-MR is designed as a reusable, non-explosive hard-kill alternative to short-range missiles, capable of engaging drones at ranges beyond 5 km. The platform can return to base or deploy a parachute for recovery when used against some smaller targets.
According to MARSS, enhancements to its targeting algorithms, powered by the company’s hybrid-intelligence NiDAR platform, have improved system maturity and accuracy since it achieved fully autonomous flight in early 2024.
The company said the latest developments have drawn interest from customers globally. INTERCEPTOR-MR has been down-selected for evaluation by a NATO member state and discussions are underway with existing operators on adapting the system for specific operational environments. MARSS also noted increased demand for hard-kill options as electronic warfare measures such as jamming prove less effective against certain threats.
To meet anticipated demand, MARSS has expanded its UK-based Defence Labs team in Bristol by 50 percent in recent months, with further recruitment expected as the company prepares for production beginning in 2026. While hardware is designed for potential third-party manufacture in customer nations, MARSS said its UK facilities will remain central to design and development, particularly for European markets.
