On November 21, MBDA announced its first export contract for Sky Warden, the company’s modular C-UAS solution. The agreement, concluded with a Middle Eastern country, marks a significant milestone for MBDA’s global C-UAS portfolio.
A Comprehensive Drone Defense Solution
Sky Warden is designed to protect against the full spectrum of drone threats, from micro-UAVs to tactical systems, at ranges up to eight kilometers. The system integrates multi-sensor detection, AI-driven classification, and a wide range of effectors for both soft-kill and hard-kill engagements.
Lorenzo Mariani, MBDA Executive Group Director Sales and Business Development, said:
“Signing this export contract marks a crucial step in our commitment to ensuring the security and sovereignty of our partners around the world. SKY WARDEN provides an innovative and comprehensive response to the challenges posed by asymmetric air threats. This unique drone-fighting system combines state-of-the-art technology, unprecedented flexibility, and a constantly evolving capability. With SKY WARDEN, we offer our customers robust and adaptable protection against all UAV threats, today and tomorrow.”
Award-Winning Technology
Sky Warden recently won the Frontex C-UAS Prize 2025, recognized as the best system to protect EU borders. Its modular architecture allows easy integration of new sensors and effectors, ensuring adaptability to evolving threats.
Key features include:
- Detection and tracking using radar, thermal optics, and RF sensors
- AI-enabled threat evaluation for precision classification
- Effectors such as omni and directional jammers, MBDA HTK interceptors, MISTRAL 3 missiles, and the CILAS HELMA-P laser weapon
- Scalability for fixed-site protection or vehicle-mounted operations
Flexible and Future-Ready
Sky Warden can operate as a standalone system or integrate with medium-range air defense assets like VL MICA or CAMM-ER. Its modular design supports rapid upgrades and mission-specific configurations.
MBDA recently expanded the system’s capabilities by acquiring the HELMA-P laser from CILAS, adding a directed-energy option to its effector suite.
This first export contract underscores growing global demand for advanced counter-drone solutions and positions Sky Warden as a leading choice for layered air defense architectures.
