Mexico’s Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) has secured direct access to the US Army’s digital marketplace. It is the first time the Pentagon has cleared the sale of digital military technology and drone hardware to Mexico explicitly for anti-cartel operations. Signed as a Declaration of Intent by US Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll and Mexican Army Commander Major General Héctor Ávila, the pact lets SEDENA procure unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) at competitive cost to confront transnational organised crime.
