Motorola Solutions is highlighting its expanding role in counter-drone and airspace awareness technology at this year’s Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exhibition in Washington, D.C. The company’s suite of systems is designed to help military and defense agencies detect, analyze and respond to unmanned aerial threats alongside other operational challenges.
Joe Balchune, vice president for Federal Markets at Motorola Solutions, noted that there were “over 350 drone detections at 100 military installations last year,” highlighting the increasing frequency of drone incursions over U.S. bases. He said the company’s counter-drone tools aim to give commanders early warning and a clearer operational picture to sustain mission readiness.
Among the systems being demonstrated are several focused specifically on UAS detection and response. A cloud-based drone detection and airspace intelligence platform, developed in partnership with SkySafe, provides real-time and historical tracking data on drones and their operators, integrating those insights directly into command center operations.
Motorola Solutions will also display radio frequency (RF) detection sensors capable of identifying and geolocating drone-related emissions, providing early warning of potential incursions.
The company’s long-range thermal cameras can integrate with radar, lidar and other sensors to track drones and other aerial anomalies at ranges up to 30 kilometers. In addition, an AI-enabled drone-in-a-box system, developed with Nokia, provides automated surveillance and response capabilities to improve situational awareness and reaction times.
These systems form part of Motorola Solutions’ broader defense technology ecosystem, which the company says is designed to unify communications, intelligence and threat data across multiple domains.
