MyDefence, a leading Danish defence technology company, launched its UK branch last week. This move strengthens the UK’s counter-drone capabilities and supports NATO operations. It also marks a key step in enhancing defence collaboration between the UK and the EU.
The expansion aligns with the UK Government’s Strategic Defence Review and the upcoming Defence Investment Plan. By offering NATO-compatible systems and working with Nordic defence programmes, MyDefence’s new hub is helping reinforce the UK’s role in European security.
The company’s counter-drone systems detect, track and neutralise hostile drones. These modular solutions work in complex environments and can be deployed on foot or mounted on vehicles. Forces in Ukraine, the United States and Australia already use them in active operations.
To lead the UK programme, MyDefence appointed Liam Hutcheson, a former British Army officer. He brings hands-on experience in urgent capability acquisition and defence supply chain strategy. Recently, he supported operations in Ukraine and advised on the Defence Supply Chain Capability Programme.
“Drones have transformed modern conflict, and the requirement for the UK to strengthen its C-UAS capability is clear” Hutcheson said. “It is a really exciting time for UK MOD; the momentum from the Strategic Defence Review and the anticipation of the Defence Investment Plan means the timing is perfect for MyDefence to enter the UK market. MyDefence has demonstrated that it can field proven systems at speed on NATO operations – a capability I am enormously proud to bring to the UK.”
Dan D. S. Hermansen, CEO of MyDefence, also commented, highlighting the importance of the UK as a NATO partner and the urgency of addressing drone threats. “Our technology has been tested in real combat conditions to protect frontline troops, critical infrastructure, and coalition forces” Hermansen said. “The UK remains a key NATO partner, and our presence here ensures we can deliver battle proven, field-ready capabilities rapidly to meet evolving drone threats.”
This investment also shows MyDefence’s commitment to the UK defence industry. By setting up locally, the company ensures British Armed Forces have direct access to advanced counter-drone tools.
