The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with 100 drone-detection radars and 20 medical evacuation vehicles as part of a new €175 million ($202 million) military aid package, Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans announced on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
The Dutch Defence Ministry claims the radars are intended to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to detect incoming drones and feed critical data into its air defence systems. Delivery of the radar systems is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
In a previous statement, the ministry specified that €80 million of the total package will be directed toward drone-related support through the international Drone Coalition. The coalition, launched earlier in the conflict, is a joint initiative by several allied countries to enhance Ukraine’s drone capabilities across surveillance, combat and defensive applications.
The latest aid package follows a €500 million agreement announced earlier this year to co-produce 600,000 drones in partnership with Ukraine’s domestic defence industry.
Brekelmans, speaking ahead of this week’s NATO summit in The Hague, emphasized that the continued flow of military support reflects the Netherlands’ long-term commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty and regional stability.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in early 2022, the Netherlands has pledged approximately €10 billion in military support to Ukraine. This includes contributions ranging from air defence systems and ammunition to F-16 fighter jets and joint drone production initiatives.
The new radars and medical evacuation vehicles are expected to support both frontline operations and efforts to modernize Ukraine’s defence infrastructure against near-nightly attacks by Russian forces, which have increasingly relied on drones and long-range strikes.
