UK-based counter-drone specialist OpenWorks Engineering has announced the launch of Vision Pace, a new autonomous optics system.
The system is designed to provide precision targeting of multiple dynamic threats while on the move, with potential applications in ground-based air defense (GBAD), short-range air defense (SHORAD), mobile SHORAD and expeditionary force protection across land and naval domains.
Vision Pace uses a direct-drive design combined with stabilisation technology and AI-powered tracking to achieve high levels of accuracy. It builds on the company’s existing Vision Flex product line, which has been deployed in various modular configurations. According to OpenWorks, the system can be adapted to integrate third-party sensors and effectors alongside its electro-optical and infrared imagers.
One configuration on display at DSEI includes integration with Thales’ TrueHunter Gimbal Sight, a multi-spectral sensor suite equipped with high-resolution daylight cameras, a cooled thermal imager, an SWIR sensor and laser targeting tools.
OpenWorks has also partnered with Echodyne to incorporate its 4D EchoShield radar into the system, providing a combined detect, track and targeting capability.
The collaboration between OpenWorks and Thales follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year, aimed at combining Thales’ sensor technology with OpenWorks’ autonomous targeting system. At the upcoming DSEI event, OpenWorks is also showcasing a version of Vision Pace equipped with its own sensors mounted on a rapid deployment kit.
