The Dutch Ministry of Defence has confirmed a new order of 51 on-the-move (OTM) drone radars from Robin Radar Systems, to be donated to Ukraine later this year. This contract, signed on August 21 at Robin Radar’s headquarters in The Hague, follows an earlier purchase of 51 static IRIS drone radars, which have been deployed across various locations.

The latest order introduces OTM functionality, enhancing the capabilities of traditional radar systems. Unlike stationary radar, typically mounted on fixed platforms like buildings or tripods, OTM systems are designed to operate effectively while mounted on mobile objects such as vehicles or ships. This advancement enables continuous monitoring and threat detection, even when the radar is in motion.

Robin Radar’s 3D IRIS drone radars are specifically engineered to detect small, fast, and elusive drones, differentiating them from birds and other airborne objects. The addition of OTM functionality allows these systems to maintain accuracy and coverage while moving at high speeds. The radars provide a full 360° view, delivering early warnings and precise updates critical for defence operations.

The integration of mobile detection systems offers several strategic advantages, including increased agility, expanded coverage and rapid response capabilities. Mobile radars are harder to locate and neutralise, ensuring continuous surveillance and enabling defence teams to respond swiftly to enemy drone threats.

This purchase marks a significant boost for Dutch defence technology development, supporting Robin Radar in scaling up production to four radars per week. The continued investment from the Dutch Ministry of Defence allows for ongoing innovation in key technologies essential for frontline operations.
