Anti-Drone ‘Cope Cage’ on CJNG Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles (IAFV) Engaging SEDENA Forces in Jalisco is a report by C/O Futures.

During a recent clash on Sunday, November 19, 2023, between the Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and the Mexican Army (SEDENA) in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, an improvised armored fighting vehicle (IAFV) belonging to the CJNG was discovered. Notably, the vehicle was equipped with an anti-drone “cope cage” securely welded over the front cab and hood—an unprecedented occurrence in Mexican cartel IAFVs.

This defensive adaptation safeguards the fighting vehicle from top-down attacks, offering standoff protection through pre-detonating missiles and bomblets. It is essential to highlight that the Mexican Army does not deploy weaponized drones capable of aerial bombardment or IED point detonation. Therefore, this defensive tactic serves as a strategic response to the escalating combat capabilities of opposing Mexican cartels, particularly in the realm of drone warfare.
