According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and as reported by multiple media outlets, including Euromaidan Press, the Australian company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) plans to set up a production facility in Ukraine.
The Defense Ministry announced this after a meeting between Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Dmytro Klymenkov, Vice President of Sales and Business Development, Scott Hicks, and Marc Essig, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at EOS.
Last year, it was reported that three EOS “Slingers,” a 30mm weapon system, were being sent to Ukraine as part of a previously announced U.S. security assistance package.
The Slinger counter-drone system takes inspiration from the historical Slinger soldiers, famed for their precision in hurling small stones to defeat distant enemies. This Australian-made system effectively neutralizes modern drone threats with a single, lethal shot. It integrates a radar, a 30mm cannon with specialized ammunition, and EOS’s proprietary stabilization and pointing technology. Capable of tracking and engaging moving drones at distances beyond 800 meters, the Slinger is particularly suited for urban environments due to its unique ammunition. Drawing on lessons from conflict regions such as Ukraine, it addresses contemporary and emerging threats.
