Israeli robotics company Robotican has completed the delivery of dozens of its ROOSTER hybrid drone systems to European special operations forces, intervention units and infantry teams. The company also announced that the ROOSTER system has received official NATO registration, indicating compliance with NATO standards and eligibility for use by alliance members.
The ROOSTER, short for “RObotic Observation System for Tactical Engagement and Reconnaissance,” is a compact hybrid drone that combines both aerial and ground mobility. Designed for indoor and subterranean missions, the system can fly or roll on the ground depending on the operational environment, making it suitable for GPS-denied, confined or hazardous areas where conventional drones may not be effective.
According to Robotican, the ROOSTER is equipped with infrared and visible light cameras, integrated day/night sensors and supports a range of optional payloads including thermal imagers and gas or radiation detectors. Its mesh communication system allows multiple units to operate cooperatively without external communication infrastructure, which can be especially useful in areas with signal interference or physical obstacles.
The system offers a total of 90 minutes of active mission time and up to 5 hours in standby. It is designed to be deployed quickly from a tactical backpack by a single operator, providing ground forces with real-time situational awareness before entering potentially dangerous environments.
The ROOSTER is already in use by Israel’s Ministry of Defense and Home Front Command, and its recent adoption by European military users reflects growing interest in versatile, multi-domain reconnaissance systems. NATO registration further reinforces its viability for deployment among alliance forces.
