Rohde & Schwarz announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Quantum Systems at AFCEA 2026 last week, marking a step toward integrating electromagnetic warfare (EW) and C-UAS capabilities into next-generation uncrewed platforms.
The agreement brings together Rohde & Schwarz’s expertise in EW and spectrum operations with Quantum Systems’ development of AI-enabled uncrewed aerial systems. The companies aim to jointly explore how advanced EW solutions can be embedded into uncrewed platforms (UxVs), while also collaborating on the development and deployment of C-UAS technologies to address evolving aerial threats.
According to both companies, the partnership will focus on enhancing operational effectiveness by integrating EW capabilities directly into uncrewed systems. This includes enabling new operational concepts where reconnaissance, protection, and counter-drone functions can be delivered through autonomous platforms in complex environments.
Quantum Systems, which specializes in uncrewed and intelligent aerial systems, is expected to work closely with Rohde & Schwarz to assess how EW payloads and signal intelligence capabilities can be incorporated into its platforms. The collaboration also reflects a growing demand for integrated C-UAS solutions capable of countering uncrewed aerial threats across contested domains.
“This MoU represents an important milestone in our mission to deliver innovative EW solutions,” said Alexander Philipp, Managing Director, Rohde & Schwarz Vertriebs-GmbH.
“By partnering with Quantum Systems, we are combining complementary strengths to create powerful, future-ready capabilities for our customers.”
“The requirements of modern armed forces are changing at a rapid pace. Today, the key is the ability to quickly transfer proven technologies onto new platforms and make them immediately usable. Together with Rohde & Schwarz we are creating a German solution for uncrewed signals intelligence in the air and electronic protection systems on the ground, thereby deliberately expanding capabilities on the battlefield,” said Martin Karkour, Chief Revenue Officer of Quantum Systems.
The companies stated that the collaboration is intended to deliver adaptable and scalable solutions for defense and security forces operating in increasingly contested and technology-driven environments. Areas of focus include signals intelligence (SIGINT), electronic protection, and counter-drone capabilities integrated into both aerial and ground-based uncrewed systems.
The announcement underscores a broader industry trend toward converging EW, C-UAS, and autonomous systems to address emerging operational requirements. Both companies also emphasized their commitment to collaboration and continued innovation in the defense sector through this partnership.
