SAIC, a premier Fortune 500® technology integrator, was recently named a recipient of the 2023 Edison Awards last month for its C-UAS solution. SAIC received the Gold Award for Military Tech in the Aerospace and Flight Technologies category.

Established in 1987, The Edison Awards™ is among the most prestigious accolades honoring excellence in new product and service development, marketing, design and innovation. Their vision is continually guided by the legacy and vision of Thomas Edison and his Menlo Park team, which successfully brought unprecedented innovations to the market.

SAIC created protective C-UAS architectures that include sensors and effectors, which are integrated and fielded within a vendor-agnostic command-and-control (C2) system. SAIC’s approach involves incorporating the most effective C-UAS capabilities and deploying complete drone defense systems globally to provide airspace awareness and protection for warfighters, law enforcement officers, and citizens.

During a U.S. Army-hosted C-UAS operational test event in April 2022, SAIC successfully demonstrated a configurable solution that supports fixed, semi-fixed, mobile, and handheld operations. Verified by the Joint C-sUAS Office (JCO), SAIC delivered total mission effectiveness. As the lead systems integrator, SAIC applied its open-architecture C2 software to integrate 25 individual sensors and effectors across 10 hardware providers. During the test, SAIC’s system was manned by a single operator and tested against a variety of threats, ranging from Group 1 – 3 UASs (fixed wing and rotary wing), using the C2 software across all sensors and effectors. SAIC will also participate in the upcoming JCO Demo 4.

SAIC continues to improve its CUAS capabilities by integrating market-leading products from different vendors/partners.  With these relationships, SAIC has tailorable and layered sensors and effectors included in its product offering.  Additionally, SAIC enhanced user experience with its Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning platforms, Koverse and Tenjin, which provide Zero trust data storage and real-time analysis.

“With a mind toward continuous improvement, SAIC has increased our overall capability set by integrating other market-leading products from many different vendors/partners,” said Jeremy Davidson, SAIC’s CUAS Systems Engineering Director.  “We now have over 40 CUAS sensors and effectors included in our proven product offering that is modular, scalable, affordable, and available across multiple market sectors such as Defense, State/Local, Border Defense, Airports, Critical Infrastructure, and Prisons.”
