Silvus launches latest in MANET tech for secure comms in contested environments

Silvus Technologies has announced the release of the SC4400 XTREME (SC4400X), a new addition to its StreamCaster line of mobile ad hoc network (MANET) radios. The SC4400X is specifically designed for high-performance communications in maritime, coastal and other corrosive or challenging operational settings.

According to Silvus, the SC4400X is a ruggedized evolution of its SC4400 Enhanced (SC4400E) model, delivering up to 20 watts of output power—equating to 80 watts effective output when using the company’s proprietary TX Eigen Beamforming technology.

Built from sea-grade aluminum and featuring MIL-A-8625-F Type III hard anodizing, the system is engineered to withstand saltwater exposure, high humidity, and intense environmental stress. These characteristics make it well-suited to naval, offshore and amphibious missions.

The radio supports dual-band operation and a wide input voltage range (9–50 VDC), offering flexibility for integration across platforms including vessels, ground vehicles and potentially airborne systems. It also maintains physical compatibility with existing SC4400E installations, allowing for upgrade paths within previously deployed networks.

At the core of the SC4400X is Silvus’ MN-MIMO waveform, which enables the creation of large, self-forming mesh networks with high throughput and electronic warfare (EW) resilience. This feature is especially relevant to the UAS sector, where reliable, secure and scalable communications networks are increasingly vital for coordinating multiple platforms in contested environments.

The SC4400X also integrates Silvus’ Spectrum Dominance 2.0 suite, which includes anti-jamming, low probability of intercept/detection and advanced threat protection tools, designed to ensure secure communications even in congested or adversarial RF environments.

This could prove critical for UAS operations involving ISR, EW support or coordinated strike missions where signal disruption is a concern.
