On Friday, three individuals were taken into custody near Erlestoke Prison in the United Kingdom after a drone was seen flying over the facility. The drone was believed to have dropped a package of suspicious items into the prison grounds.
Police officers proceeded to the area and identified a Nissan Qashqai that had stopped on Bath Road in Melksham, heading toward Shaw.
The vehicle’s occupants were observed discarding a drone, which has since been located and confiscated.
Three men, ranging in age from their 20s to 40s and from the Bristol region, were apprehended on suspicion of throwing a banned item into a prison.
Sgt. Steve Edwards, a member of the Volume Crime Team, commended the officers’ swift response in discovering and securing the drone and detaining the three suspects soon after receiving the initial report. He emphasized the seriousness with which reports of transporting prohibited items into a prison are regarded and assured a collaborative effort with HMP staff to investigate and prevent such incidents in the future.
