US deploys laser weapon to counter drone threats in Europe

The U.S. Air Forces in Europe–Air Forces Africa (USAFE-AFAFRICA) has deployed the Compact Laser Weapon System (CLWS) to undisclosed locations across Europe as part of a broader effort to strengthen defenses against unmanned threats.

While the service did not disclose technical specifications or deployment locations, it said the directed-energy weapon is integrated into a layered air defense architecture that combines multiple sensors and effectors to detect, identify and defeat hostile drones.
