Why drones with wires are not the step backward they might seem

The prevailing assumption in drone development is that mobility, range and untethered communication are fundamental characteristics of modern unmanned aerial platforms. The common belief is that drones should be untethered, free to roam without the constraints of a cable. In times past, the idea of any aircraft requiring a power or data cable would likely have seemed laughable to most.

This perception no longer reflects operational reality.
