Global Positioning System (GPS), originally called Navstar GPS, is a satellite-based radio navigation system owned by the U.S. government and operated by the U.S. Air Force. Using signals from multiple satellites positioned worldwide, a receiver and algorithms provide location, velocity, and time synchronization for air, sea, and land objects.
