DroneShield Partners with SRI Group to deliver C-UAS assessment for airports

DroneShield has announced a strategic collaboration with SRI Group, an aviation security and technology consultancy founded by former U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Deputy Administrator John Halinski, to help airports and regulators address the growing threat of unauthorized drones in civilian airspace.

Under the partnership, the two companies will offer independent, vendor-neutral counter-UAS threat and risk assessments for civil airports. The initiative aims to help airport leadership identify vulnerabilities, prioritize mitigation strategies and develop business cases for the adoption of counter-drone systems.

SRI Group’s assessment framework, developed through years of aviation security experience, provides strategic intelligence to support decisions on operational readiness, technology selection and investment planning. By combining SRI’s expertise with DroneShield’s counter-drone technology portfolio, the partnership is designed to help civil aviation authorities move from awareness of drone threats to actionable defense strategies.

Halinski, a 25-year U.S. Marine Corps veteran with extensive experience overseeing global aviation security operations, said the partnership will provide practical guidance for airport operators facing a rapidly evolving airspace environment:

“By offering airport leadership access to independent counter-UAS threat and risk assessments, DroneShield is ensuring that decisions are based on objective data and operational realities,” he said.

DroneShield’s Chief Executive Officer Oleg Vornik said the collaboration extends the company’s efforts beyond technology delivery:

“This is about more than technology, it’s about leadership,” Vornik said. “Through our partnership with SRI Group, we’re giving airports the tools and insights they need to build robust, data-driven counter-drone programs.”

The collaboration follows the release of DroneShield’s new white paper, Best Practices for Counter-Drone Deployment at Civil Airports, which outlines frameworks for airspace protection and policy development. Together, the initiatives aim to equip airports with both the strategic assessments and operational guidance required to strengthen defenses against drone incursions.

DroneShield and SRI Group will present their joint offering at the Airports Council International (ACI) World Annual Assembly in Canada later this year, where airport executives will be able to initiate the risk assessment process and receive tailored reports outlining recommended counter-UAS measures.
