Taïwan National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) is set to sign a memorandum of understanding with National Taiwan University, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, and National Formosa University on Wednesday. The agreement aims to integrate industry, academic and research capabilities to advance the country’s UAS sector.
According to NCSIST, the collaboration marks a major milestone for Taiwan’s UAS industry. The research initiative is expected to accelerate technological advancements, foster talent development and align industry growth with economic expansion. Given the high consumption rate of UAS, NCSIST emphasized the importance of autonomous production capabilities to ensure long-term sustainability.
Taiwan is also expanding its UAS infrastructure with plans to establish a second UAS center in Chiayi. This facility, along with the existing Asia UAV Innovation Center and Minxiong Aerospace Industrial Park, aims to enhance industrial clustering and position Chiayi as a key hub for drone development.
Once completed, the Minxiong Aerospace Industrial Park will provide private companies with space to expand manufacturing and offer Original Design Manufacturer and Original Equipment Manufacturer services. By integrating military, civilian and academic research efforts, the park is expected to strengthen Taiwan’s UAS development capabilities.
Deputy Premier Cheng Li-chun recently outlined five strategies to establish a secure and democratic drone supply chain in Taiwan. She highlighted the impact of geopolitical shifts on global supply chains, positioning Taiwan’s UAV industry as a critical player in ensuring reliable and secure production networks.
