DroneShield participated in a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) demonstration last week, showcasing its counter-uncrewed systems technology to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and other senior officials. The event, held the Customs and Border Protection Unmanned Technology Operations Center, highlighted the department’s increasing focus on mitigating drone-related threats to national security.
The demonstration brought together a range of C-UAS industry representatives alongside DHS personnel, following recent high-level attention on the threat posed by uncrewed aerial systems. In a recent U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, DHS Counter-UAS Program Management Office Director Steven Willoughby warned that drones are used “nearly every day” by transnational criminal organizations to move narcotics and surveil law enforcement at U.S. borders.
Secretary Noem, who has advocated for expanding counter-drone capabilities, reiterated her concerns during a Senate hearing earlier this year, calling for the integration of CUAS systems across Coast Guard operations.
In a recent social media post, she described drone threats as part of a “weapons-technology revolution,” citing their use in smuggling operations, infrastructure targeting, and surveillance.
DroneShield’s participation in the July 24 demonstration included a briefing to Secretary Noem on its technologies, which have seen operational use in Ukraine and in other international conflict zones. The company, which focuses exclusively on counter-UAS solutions, has deployed thousands of systems globally over the past decade.
The event was framed by DHS officials as part of a broader, coordinated push to modernize homeland defense capabilities in response to the expanding role of drones in criminal and adversarial activity. The rise in drone incursions across critical infrastructure, including airports, ports, and mass gatherings, has led DHS to expand its partnerships with industry providers offering deployable, scalable mitigation systems.
DroneShield representatives described the demonstration as an opportunity to align with DHS’ evolving counter-UAS priorities. The company’s systems are designed for rapid deployment and field adaptability, and are marketed as being easy to train and operate in high-pressure environments.
