Wrap Technologies Inc. has received a purchase order for 20 of its MERLIN-1 counter-drone systems, marking a potential entry point into the UK public safety market.
The order was placed by Advanced Blast & Ballistic Systems Group and is intended as a pre-order to support evaluation and potential deployment across public safety applications in the United Kingdom.
The MERLIN-1 system is designed as a non-lethal counter-UAS system payload that can be mounted on a drone. It works by entangling hostile drones mid-flight, offering an alternative to kinetic interceptors and other traditional counter-drone methods.
According to the company, the pre-order may be used for demonstration, testing and market development activities in the UK and broader European market. Discussions are also ongoing regarding the provision of a demonstration unit for an upcoming industry exhibition.
The announcement follows recent counter-drone related activity by Wrap Technologies in Canada, Panama and India, as the company continues to expand its international footprint.
Company President Jared Novick said the system is aimed at providing safer response options as drone use increases in public safety environments. “We believe those interactions must begin with safer, more responsible options,” he said.
MERLIN-1 is still progressing toward full market readiness following testing and evaluation. Wrap is also developing its broader drone portfolio, including the DFR-X platform, which is intended for non-lethal drone-based intervention and is targeting availability in 2026.
While the company reported recent revenue growth driven by demand for its BolaWrap restraint device, it remains unprofitable over the past year, reflecting ongoing investment in product development and expansion efforts.
