重要インフラとは、物理的であれ仮想的であれ、資産、システム、ネットワークが極めて重要であり、その機能停止や破壊が安全保障、国家経済安全保障、国民の健康や安全、あるいはそれらの組み合わせに悪影響を及ぼすと考えられるセクターを指す。 米国では、国土安全保障省が以下を特定し、説明している。 16の重要インフラ部門. セクターは以下の通り:
