US Army awards Fortem $18M contract for C-UAS systems

The U.S. Army has awarded Fortem Technologies a three-year contract worth $18 million to supply counter-drone systems and related support services at Army sites worldwide, according to a company announcement.

Under the agreement, Fortem will provide equipment including its DroneHunter interceptor platform along with field-support services intended to help protect Army installations and operations from unauthorized or hostile drones.

The company said it has already received the first order under the contract, valued at nearly $4 million.

The DroneHunter system is designed to autonomously intercept and capture drones using a net, an approach intended to neutralize airborne threats while minimizing collateral damage.

“Protecting soldiers and materiel from the growing drone threat is one of the most urgent defense challenges of our time,” said Fortem Technologies CEO Jon Gruen. “This award highlights the U.S. Army’s trust in Fortem’s unique ability to move beyond detection and deliver safe, effective drone interception in real-world environments.”

The contract comes amid increasing focus within the US military on defending installations against small unmanned aircraft systems, which have become more prevalent across conflict zones and domestic security environments.

Fortem said the award follows a series of recent developments for the company’s counter-UAS portfolio. In January, the Pentagon selected the DroneHunter system as its first purchase under the Replicator-2 initiative. The company also reported initial deliveries of a next-generation version of the interceptor and disclosed what it described as a 5-on-5 autonomous drone swarm engagement, in which multiple hostile drones were detected, tracked and neutralized simultaneously.

In February, Fortem also announced a multimillion-dollar contract from the US Department of Homeland Security to support counter-drone security at venues associated with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
