Dutch MoD orders 100 IRIS C-UAS radars from Robin Radar Systems

Robin Radar Systems has signed a major contract with the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) to deliver 100 IRIS drone-detection radars, marking one of Europe’s largest investments in C-UAS.

Following parliamentary approval two weeks ago, the first 50 IRIS systems have already been delivered, and initial user groups have completed operational training. In a move that breaks traditional multi-year delivery timelines, deployment is underway across key Dutch air bases and critical infrastructure sites. Notably, the first 30 radar systems shipped within 24 hours of signing.

Accelerating Innovation for NATO Airspace Protection

The deal underscores a growing urgency among NATO nations to accelerate innovation cycles and strengthen airspace security. Global conflicts have highlighted the severe risks posed by weaponized drones, prompting governments to expand C-UAS capabilities beyond military installations to include civilian infrastructure such as ports, airports, prisons, energy facilities, and major public events.

Robin Radar’s IRIS system has been battle-proven in Ukraine, where it has supported infrastructure and armed forces for three consecutive years through the MoD’s Task Force for Ukraine. This experience has enabled the development of tailored, conflict-tested solutions for Dutch national security.

Recent drone sightings over air bases in the Netherlands and neighboring countries have further heightened the urgency for rapid C-UAS deployment.

IRIS Technology: Advanced Detection and Rapid Scaling

IRIS radars are engineered to detect, track, and classify small, fast-flying drones, even those designed to evade traditional systems. Continuous upgrades have enhanced detection range and accuracy, including the new Long-Range Mode, which extends instrumented detection capability to 5–12 km.

“In today’s environment, speed is critical. Traditional multi-year innovation cycles are no longer enough. Nations need a new generation of companies that can innovate, scale, and deliver rapidly,” said Siete Hamminga, CEO, Robin Radar Systems.

“We have gone from producing 20 radars a year to eight per week, and with this Dutch MoD order, the first 30 systems were delivered within 24 hours of signing. Early warning saves lives, and rapid deployment makes that possible. The context in which we currently live means defence technology must move faster than ever, and necessity has truly become the mother of our present and future innovations.”

C-UAS Growth Beyond Military Applications

Robin Radar Systems has also supported major security operations globally, including the Paris Olympics in partnership with Thales, and federal security agencies across the U.S. and Canada.

“Our experience securing major events like the Paris Olympics, with Thales, and supporting Federal Security agencies across the US and Canada shows that homeland security is becoming the next major, sustained area of C-UAS growth,” said Robin Radar’s CCO, Marcel Verdonk.

“Civilian airspace and critical infrastructure operators now understand that drone detection is no longer optional, it’s essential,” he continued.
