L3Harris successfully demonstrates C-UAS system on robotic platform

L3Harris Technologies announced in a press release on January 15, 2025 its successful demonstration of a C-UAS system aboard a robotic platform at the US Army’s Vanguard 24 experiment.

The Vanguard 24 capstone experiment, hosted by the US Army and Intelligence-Capability Development Integration Directorate (I-CDID) from September 8 to September 20, 2024, “delved into high-altitude sensors, terrestrial systems, and microsensors and explored Electronic Warfare capabilities that can traverse vast distances.”

Vanguard 24 – which experimented with technologies from Army Labs, Army systems, existing prototypes, and Industry – aimed to determine whether these new technologies could be integrated into intelligence system architectures and evaluate whether they could ever become future Army programs of record.

During the experiment, L3Harris successfully integrated a counter-small UAS system onto its T7 Multi-Mission Robotic System. The platform was able to demonstrate remote drone detection and defeat, identified as a key capability for Army operators.

The T7 – which can be deployed to support various mission requirements including hazardous materials cleanup, explosive ordnance disposal, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and special weapons and tactics – is currently in operation with EOD military forces from the US, UK and Australia. The addition of a C-UAS system onto the platform will ensure its survivability and protection on the ground amid the increasing drone threat worldwide.

Commenting on the successful demonstration, Ed Zoiss, President, Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris highlighted it as “a powerful example of our commitment to help customers dominate future mission scenarios, from counter-small UAS to spectrum sensing and beyond.”

Earlier in 2024, L3Harris participated in the US Army’s Project Convergence Capstone 4 field experiment, where it integrated advanced long-range surveillance and electronic attack capabilities onto a fully autonomous combat vehicle, enhancing ground-based air defense with beyond-line-of-sight operations.
