DroneShield has announced it will significantly expand its research and development operations in the United States, more than doubling its U.S. workforce and adding a second location to its headquarters in Virginia.
The Australian-listed company said over 30 percent of the new positions will focus on software development, particularly in artificial intelligence. The expansion is intended to accelerate product development cycles and improve support for U.S. customers, according to company officials.
DroneShield’s move in Virginia follows recent steps to expand production capacity in Australia and open a new office in the European Union. The company framed these efforts as part of a broader strategy to increase its presence in key markets and respond to what it described as rapidly growing global demand for counter-UAS technology.
Executives said the U.S. expansion will also allow the company to align more closely with the Department of Defense’s push for faster acquisition of counter-drone capabilities.
“This investment enables us to be more responsive to the growing needs of our U.S. customers across the various sectors we serve,” said Tom Branstetter, Vice President of Sales and Business Development at DroneShield LLC.
DroneShield, which develops systems for detecting, tracking and defeating drones, has in recent years positioned itself as a supplier to military, government and critical infrastructure operators facing the growing challenge of small uncrewed aerial systems.
