Więcej niż 600 drones have been seized after entering restricted airspace around FIFA World Cup venues and fan zones in the United States, providing one of the clearest indications yet of the scale of the drone challenge facing major sporting events.
The figure, confirmed by federal authorities, covers incidents across all 11 U.S. host cities. According to the FBI, around 130 drones have been seized in Miami alone, while more than 70 were seized around matches in Dallas. Authorities have also reported dozens of seizures in other host cities, including Atlanta and Kansas City.
For comparison, before the tournament began, much of the discussion around drone threats focused on potential risks and whether the United States was prepared to deal with them. The World Cup has now provided a real-world answer. The threat has not materialized in the form of a major drone attack, but authorities are dealing with a constant stream of unauthorized aircraft entering protected airspace.
